Hi.
Everytime I self harm I wish i hadn`t done it and i feel guilty. I have tried alternatives to SI in the past. Some of these suggestions might work , they may not but i thought i would post them for people to read anyway.
1) Snap an elastic band around your wrist.
2) Grip a piece of ice hard - this really hurts and stings but leaves no marks.
3) Try drawing on yourself in red felt tip to give the impression you have self harmed.
4) Frantic cleaning.
5) Exercise.
6) Go and smash a few glass bottles in the local bottlebank - Ive tried this one and its great!!!
7) Tear up newspapers.
8) Try drawing , painting or writing poetry.
9) Write an angry letter about your emotions , what or who has upset you then rip it up afterwards.
10) Popping bubble wrap.

I've tried the angry letter thing a few times. Surprisingly enough, it does work. Another stuff I've tried was listening to some loud music and screaming along, or just jumping around, like a psycho. I also had this huge teddy bear, poor thing got beaten up so many times... but hey, whatever helps you relief the tension

it was late and i was lonely , i thought i might as well make my time productive. The ideas that counsellors and shrinks give you can be very patronising. so i thought id post some that do actually help

Thanks for those I've tried quite a few of those in my time , the 15 minute game used to be my fave, tried the ice, but it didn't help, I like to write too, that helps me most times and hte elastic band sometimes helped, but sometimes it would trigger me a bit more too. I think it just depends on the person too. i didn't realise how many I had in my little book, I think I'll type up 10 or 20 at a time lol
